East Lake at dusk
8/17/2008 – 8/21/2008: In the middle of August, 2008, my son Gary and I went on a backpack trip to the High Sierras in California. We packed into East Lake, about four miles and then day hiked from there. We visited Green Lake, West Lake, Summit Lake and a bunch of smaller pools. We climbed to 11,000 feet and never got below 9,000 during the four days and three nights we were on the trip. Back then we saw one other person who told us they saw a bear at East Lake, but we never saw one. Today, 2023, I think it is more heavily trafficked. A good day hike would be an out-and-back to East Lake.
